Why Lumi exists

Most apps are designed to keep your attention. Lumi was designed to give your attention back.

The internet has become loud — feeds that never end, notifications that demand response, profiles that perform a self. We wanted to build the opposite. A small place where someone you will never meet can leave a single sentence for you. No account to manage. No followers to count. No stream to scroll. Just one quiet thing, when you decide to open the door.

We started with a simple idea: what if a stranger said something kind to you today? What would that feel like? Would it carry you a little further? We have been answering that question, gently, build by build.

What we believe

  • Kindness is a feature, not a vibe. We invest in moderation infrastructure so that the only thing that reaches you is something good.
  • Anonymity is a kind of intimacy. When neither person can be performed for, what gets said tends to be more honest.
  • Stillness is rare and worth designing for. We chose a Japanese-inspired palette, a serif typeface, and zero engagement-bait notifications because we wanted Lumi to feel like a deep breath.
  • Privacy is the default. No accounts, no tracking, no ads, ever.
