Lumi

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) form an agreement between you and teaseCO, LLC (“teaseCO,” “we,” “us”). By downloading, installing, or using Lumi (the “App”), or by visiting lumi.tease.tr (the “Website”), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App or Website.

1. The service

Lumi is a free iOS app that allows people to write and receive anonymous letters of kindness. Letters are short text messages, no longer than 200 characters, that pass through automated content moderation before being delivered to other users. Lumi also offers a private “Pair” channel for sending letters directly between two consenting users who have exchanged a connection code.

We may add, change, or remove features at any time. We will try to give reasonable notice for material changes that reduce functionality.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Lumi. By using the App, you represent that you are at least that age. If we discover an underage user, we will delete the account.

The App is intended for personal, non-commercial use.

3. Anonymous accounts

Lumi creates an anonymous identifier for you on first launch. There is no username, email, password, or profile. You are responsible for protecting access to the device on which Lumi is installed. We have no way to recover an account you lose access to, because we do not have any way to identify you outside the device.

4. Acceptable use and content rules

Lumi is a place for kindness only. By using the App, you agree:

  • You will only send letters that are kind, supportive, encouraging, or otherwise positive in spirit.
  • You will not send letters containing any of the following:
    • Harassment, bullying, or targeted insults
    • Hate speech or discrimination based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic
    • Threats of violence, self-harm, or harm to others
    • Sexual content, sexually suggestive content, or content sexualizing minors
    • Doxxing, stalking, or attempts to identify another user
    • Spam, scams, advertising, promotional links, phone numbers, email addresses, social media handles, or any solicitation
    • Illegal content or content that promotes illegal activity
    • Misinformation that could cause harm
    • Personal information about yourself or others (real names, locations, contact details)
    • Anything Apple’s App Review Guidelines would consider objectionable

This rule applies equally to letters sent into the public pool and to letters sent through Pair channels.

5. Content moderation

Every letter you submit is reviewed before delivery through a multi-stage automated moderation pipeline:

  1. A profanity filter checking around 100 banned terms in English and Turkish, with normalization for common obfuscation patterns.
  2. A pattern-matching filter for phone numbers, URLs, email addresses, and platform names.
  3. A spam detector for promotional language, all-caps abuse, and repeated characters.
  4. A rate limiter (10 letters per hour per user) and a shadowban check.
  5. A review by Google’s Gemini large language model, which evaluates tone, kindness, and safety.

Letters that fail any stage are rejected and never reach another user. We act on user reports within 24 hours of receipt.

6. Reporting

You can report any letter you receive that you believe violates these Terms. Tap the report button on the letter. The letter is queued for re-review and will not be shown to you again.

7. Strikes, shadowbans, and bans

We use a graduated enforcement system:

  • Rate limit: Sending more than 10 letters per hour temporarily blocks you from sending more.
  • Strikes: Each rejected letter generally results in one strike. Three strikes result in a permanent account ban.
  • Shadowban: Receiving five reports for messages you sent results in an automatic shadowban — your future letters will not reach others, though the App will appear to function normally.
  • Permanent ban: Severe violations (sexual content involving minors, credible threats, doxxing) may result in immediate permanent ban without prior strikes.

Bans are tied to your anonymous account. We reserve the right to terminate any account that violates these Terms, without notice and at our sole discretion.

8. Your content

You retain ownership of any text you write in Lumi.

By submitting a letter through the App, you grant teaseCO a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable license to host, copy, transmit, display, and distribute that text solely for the purpose of operating the App — meaning, delivering it to other Lumi users in accordance with these Terms.

This license is limited to the App. We do not sell your text. We do not display it as advertising material elsewhere. We do not share it outside the moderation and delivery pipeline described in our Privacy Policy.

When you delete your account, your sending license terminates. Letters you have already sent and that have been saved by other users into their Vaults remain visible to those users but are anonymized (the sender identifier is replaced with deleted).

9. Intellectual property

The App’s source code, design, “Lumi” name, logo, and aesthetic are owned by teaseCO, LLC and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works of the App except as expressly permitted by law.

10. Pairing

A pair is a private channel between two users who have exchanged a connection code. Either party may dissolve a pair at any time. Once dissolved, no further letters can be exchanged through that channel; existing letters saved into Vaults remain.

You are responsible for the choice of who to share your connection code with. If you accidentally share it with someone you do not want paired, dissolve the pair from Settings → Pairs.

11. Apple App Store

Lumi is distributed through the Apple App Store. By using the App, you also agree to Apple’s standard End User License Agreement (“EULA”), which is referenced in Apple’s licensed application terms. To the extent there is any conflict between these Terms and Apple’s EULA, the more user-protective provision controls. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms with the right to enforce them.

12. Disclaimer of warranties

The App and Website are provided “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including any warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or quiet enjoyment.

We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that all letters will be delivered. Letters are written by other users; we cannot guarantee their kindness even with moderation in place.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, teaseCO, LLC and its officers, employees, and affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or data, arising from your use of the App or Website, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

If you are in a jurisdiction that does not allow the exclusion or limitation of liability for consequential or incidental damages, the above may not apply to you.

In no event will our total aggregate liability to you exceed the greater of (i) the amount you have paid us in the past twelve months (which is zero, since Lumi is free), or (ii) USD $50.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold teaseCO harmless from any claim, damage, loss, or expense (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your violation of these Terms or your misuse of the App.

15. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the App at any time, with or without notice, for any reason, including violation of these Terms. You may stop using the App at any time and delete your account from Settings → Account → Deactivate.

Sections 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, and 18 survive termination.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect the most recent revision. For material changes, we will surface a notice in the App before the change takes effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.

17. Governing law and dispute resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of Wyoming, United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.

Any dispute arising under these Terms shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Sheridan County, Wyoming, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there. You waive any objection to that forum.

18. General

  • Severability: If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect.
  • No waiver: Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of that or any other provision.
  • Entire agreement: These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding Lumi.
  • Assignment: You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or substantially all of our assets.
