Account
How do I delete my account?
Open Lumi → Settings → Account → Deactivate Account. A confirmation dialog will ask you to confirm. Once you do, your account and all associated data are erased from our servers immediately.
What gets deleted: your Vault, your saved messages, your notification preferences, your pair connections, your reports, and your Apple anonymous identifier.
What is preserved: messages you sent into the wind that have already reached other people. Those remain visible to recipients but are anonymized — your identifier is replaced with deleted so they can no longer be traced back to you.
You can re-install Lumi at any time and start fresh. There is no waiting period.
How is my account identified if there is no email or phone number?
Lumi uses Firebase Anonymous Authentication. When you first open the app, Apple’s servers generate a random identifier for you. We never see your name, email, phone number, or device ID. The identifier is stored on-device and synced to our backend so that we can route messages, save your Vault, and remember your preferences.
Will I lose my Vault if I switch phones?
Yes. Because Lumi is anonymous, there is no account to log into on a new device. The Vault stays tied to the original install. We are exploring privacy-respecting ways to let you transport a Vault between devices, but for now, please screenshot any letters you want to keep before switching phones.
Messages
Why was my message rejected?
Every outgoing message passes through five layers of moderation before it reaches anyone:
- Profanity filter — a list of around 100 banned terms in English and Turkish, with normalization for obfuscation tricks (leet-speak, accents, the dotless Turkish
ı, full-width digits). - Phone number detector — flags any cluster of seven or more digits.
- Contact-info detector — URLs, email addresses, social platform names (Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, etc.).
- Spam detector — promotional keywords, all-caps abuse, repeated characters.
- Google Gemini AI moderation — for everything that passes the four filters above, the message text is sent to Gemini for tone and safety review. Gemini decides whether the message is genuinely kind, what mood it carries, and whether to approve it.
If your message was rejected and you believe it was kind, write to us at info@tease.tr and we will look into it. Repeated rejections accumulate strikes; three strikes lead to an automatic ban.
Can I block someone?
Lumi is anonymous by design. You never see who sent a message, so there is no person to block. If a message arrives that does not feel kind, tap the report button. Reported messages are re-reviewed and, if confirmed objectionable, removed within 24 hours. If the same sender accumulates five reports, they are automatically shadowbanned.
If a paired user is sending content you do not want, you can dissolve the pair from Settings → Pairs.
How do I report a message?
In any letter view, tap the small flag icon. The message is queued for re-review and disappears from your screen. You will not be shown the same message again.
Pairing
How does pairing work?
Pairing creates a private channel between you and one other person. From Settings → Pairs you can:
- Generate a code — Lumi creates a six-character code for you (e.g.
LUMI-A4B2). - Share it — Send the code to a friend or partner outside of Lumi (text, in person, however you like).
- Receive their code — When they enter your code, you both confirm and the pair is created.
Once paired, when you write a message, you can choose to send it directly to your paired person instead of to the wind. Messages between paired users are still moderated, but they only ever reach that one recipient.
Can I have multiple pairs?
Yes. You can pair with as many people as you want. Each pair has its own private channel and its own nickname (only you see the nickname).
How do I dissolve a pair?
Settings → Pairs → tap the pair → Dissolve. Your partner is also notified that the pair has been dissolved. Past messages remain in your respective Vaults if you saved them.
Notifications
Will Lumi send me a lot of notifications?
No. Lumi sends at most one scheduled notification per day, and only at a time you have approved (morning, afternoon, or evening). You can also receive a notification when a paired person sends you a message, if you have permitted it. Everything is opt-in.
How do I change notification settings?
Settings → Notifications → choose your frequency, time periods, and the moods you want to receive.
What is “Soft Mode”?
Soft Mode is for sensitive days. If you mark a day as sensitive, Lumi will only deliver messages tagged Peaceful for the next 24 hours. The mood selector defaults to Peaceful as well. You can turn Soft Mode on or off at any time.
Apple Watch
What can I do with the Apple Watch app?
The Apple Watch app holds a small deck of recent letters. Turn the Digital Crown to flip between them. There is also a watch face complication (rectangular) that puts a single sentence on your watch face all day, and a lock screen widget on iPhone.
The Watch app is a companion — it cannot send letters yet, only receive and display. The Watch can show iPhone notifications natively, with Lumi’s typography and palette.
Do I need an Apple Watch to use Lumi?
No. Lumi is a complete experience on iPhone alone. The Watch app is an optional companion for those who have one.
Privacy and data
What data does Lumi collect?
Read our full Privacy Policy for the complete list. In short:
- An anonymous identifier from Apple (nothing personal)
- The text of letters you send (so we can deliver them)
- The text of letters you save (your Vault)
- Your notification preferences
- Strikes and bans (for moderation accountability)
- A push notification token (so we can deliver notifications)
We do not collect: your name, email, phone number, location, contacts, photos, browsing history, or anything similar.
Is the message text shared with anyone?
Yes — message text is sent to Google Gemini for AI moderation before delivery. Google Gemini does not store or train on this content (per Google’s API terms). Aside from that, message text only travels between you, our Firebase backend (which is also Google), and the eventual recipient. No advertisers, no analytics, no third-party trackers.
